Go Green in the Golden Years
On March 30th, Schoolhouse Center learned that it had been awarded a $2,500 grant from Coming of Age and Temple University’s Center for Intergenerational Learning. Schoolhouse was one of eight recipients chosen from the forty applicants. The funding will enable Schoolhouse to launch a “Go Green in the Golden Years” initiative. There will be a core committee of five to six individuals who will help implement a new recycling program, conduct energy audits, and review the use of current practices in order to suggest more “earth-friendly” alternatives. Committee members who are interested in public speaking will also have the opportunity to take what they have learned and share it with the community by making presentations designed to promote “greener” lifestyles. In the future, SCS hopes to replicate this project at our other three senior centers.
If you are an environmentally conscious person looking to make a big difference, you would be a perfect addition to the “Go Green in the Golden Years” leadership committee. Committee members will meet on a bi-weekly basis during the day at Schoolhouse Center. For more information on how you can get involved, please contact Michelle McGowan, Volunteer Coordinator, at 610-237-8100, ext. 25 or via e-mail at mmcgowan@scs-delco.org.
